Making a cat across the country?

I am about to embark on the road to hell, a suitcase, a laptop and a bag full of gifts, my kitten from London to Bristol. I have a "top down" transport crate thing and plan for a taxi from the station after 1:45 a train. It is a very fat cat not shy at all, but I'm nervous, does not poop / high in traffic. What if I do? Any advice? I What if I do not return?
