How do you train a puppy to not nip at you?
Hey all, we are going to keep an abandoned puppy that was at our home 2 weeks ago.
He’s not microchipped, and we’ve placed found fliers all over the place and online and no one has responded.
So, in the meantime…whether he is someone’s or not, I want to train him, but it’s been 10 years since I’ve had a puppy, and I cannot remember how I trained my Miniature Schnauzer not to nip me.
He gets carried away (the vet thinks he’s either Blue-Tick or Catahoula…will know more when he grows) and he’ll nip…and sometimes he’ll growl…it’s not aggressive like attack growling, but I want to squelch any aggressive behaviors right away.
What things can I do to make sure he doesn’t become a biter in his adulthood…whether he stays ours or his owner shows up.

Sometimes getting a water bottle and everytime the dog tries to nip, spray him. As long as you don’t mind getting your furniture wet, it’s a good solution.
