Buffalo Sabres Tickets – Heading To The Top Or Falling From It?
Although the Buffalo Sabres lost 5-3 to the Lightning, the Sabres are still very viably contending for the top spot with eastern conference placement ranking as 7th for 24 wins and 18 losses, bringing their total points to 53. How the Sabres choose to use their resources, the players and the coaches, will lay a foundation one way or the other.
Undoubtedly Sabres coaches will keep the skates warm and players charge for the challenges ahead. The coach roster includes head coach Lindy Ruff, associate coach Brian McCutcheon, assistant coach James Patrick, strength and conditioning coach Doug McKenney, assistant strength and conditioning coach Kevin Collins, goaltender coach Jim Corsi, administrative assistant coach Corey Smith, athletic trainer Time Macre, equipment manager Rip Simonick, equipment manager Dave Williams, assistant equipment manager George Babcock and massage therapist Chuck Garlow.
Along with great coaches come great doctors. This year the Sabres have on hand medical doctor Lee Bisson, team physician Nicholas Aquino, team physician William Hartrich, team physician Mark Feinberg, oral surgeon Steven Jenson, dentist Daniel Yustin and team doctor emeritus John Butsch.
Goalies Patrick Lalime and Ryan Miller are this season’s front runners on goaltending for the Sabres. Forwards include Maxim Afinogenov, Tim Connolly, Matt Ellis, Paul Gaustad, Jochen Hecht, Patrick Kaleta, Alex Kotalik, Clarke MacArthur, Adam Mair, Daniel Paille, Andrew Peters, Jason Pominville, Derek Roy, Drew Stafford and Thomas Vanek. At the moment, however forwards Afinogenov and Kaleta are on injured reserve. Defensemen include Chris Butler, Toni Lydman, Teppo Numminen, Nathan Paetsch, Craig Rivet, Andrei Sekera, Jaroslave Spacek and Henrik Tallinder.
2008 draft picks for the Sabres included defenseman Tyler Myers from Edmonton via Anaheim, left winger Tyler Ennis, left winger Luke Adam, defenseman Cory Fienhage from the New York Rangers via Los Angeles, right winger Justin Jokinen, defenseman Jordon Southorn, left winger Jacob Lagace and defenseman Nick Crawford.
With the recent loss to the Lightning, the Sabres have only a few more games left in the month of January where they will take the ice as visitors against the Oilers, Flames and Coyotes. In February, the Sabres will also hit the ice as visitors in games against the Ducks, Senators, Maple Leafs, Hurricanes and Islanders. So if the Sabres perform better at home, the games in February against the Maple Leafs, Senators, Sharks, Hurricanes, Rangers and Ducks may prove to be quite interesting. For the month of March, the Sabres will host the Canadiens, Coyotes, Panthers, Thrashers, Flyers, Panthers and Maple Leafs in home games. The balance of the games for March will be away and against the Senators, Flyers, the Senators again, Rangers and Canadiens.
The Sabres will then bring the 2008-2009 NHL season to a close in April with home games against the Devils, Red Wings and Bruins, the latter of which will be the last game on Saturday, April 11. The Sabres will travel in April as well, to play away games against the Thrashers, Capitals, Maple Leafs and Hurricanes.
