North Carolina Tar Heels Face NCAA Investigations
The North Carolina Tar Heels were one of the hot picks in college football odds at online sportsbooks as an 8 even money over on the win total for the 2010 season at online sportsbooks and a 5-1 choice to win the Atlantic Coast Conference based on what was expected to be a rocked ribbed defense that was ranked as the best in the ACC. The hopes and dreams of North Carolina are beginning to turn a shade far darker than Carolina Blue as there is now an NCAA investigation going in regards to player-agent contact, as well as an arrest of a player for marijuana.
Receiver Greg Little and defensive back Marvin Austin are under probe in an NCAA investigation for illegal contact with an agent. Linebacker Quan Sturdivant entered a prosecution agreement due to marijuana possession and was disciplined but will play in the opener. Even worse, assistant coach John Blake is under NCAA investigation for ties with NFL agent Gary Wichard. Blake used to work with Wichard and there is suspicion that Tar Heels All-ACC tackle Austin was involved as Blake is his defensive line coach.
The Tar Heels are attempting to win their first ACC title in college football betting odds for the past 30 years and had a positive vibe until camp began and it’s been nothing but bad news since word of the NCAA investigation. Wichard denied wrong doing and simply said he and Blake were good friends. “If the center of this controversy is my relationship with John, there’s really no controversy,” said Wichard. “If that’s what the NCAA is investigating, I think it’s just absurd. At the end of the day, there’s nothing to investigate.” North Carolina athletic director Dick Baddour said that NCAA representatives visited the Chapel Hill campus and that the university is cooperating completely.
