How do I dress up a comforter that’s not my style?
My stepdaughters gave us a comforter set for Christmas. I don’t know if they were making a statement or what, it’s tan with thin beige, brown and blue stripes, it looks very masculine. Anyone who knows me knows I like vintage, quilt patterns, and color! And their father doesn’t really care, but we have to use this comforter because his daughters gave it to us. I wouldn’t have the bedroom look too feminine, but this comforter is too masculine and it doesn’t go with anything else in the room. Any ideas how I can tie it in with my stained glass lamps and vintage artwork?
Use blue or ivory eyelet trimmed sheets, or any other color you can work into the room to go with your existing art work,, or a combination of these colors; be sure to fold the top of the bedding down so all these colors show when the bed is made. The further you fold them down, the less of the comforter will show! Use lots of pillows. Get a quilt or throw that you love and fold it carefully, then place it at the foot of the bed; with the pattern of the comforter you can easily use a floral quilt or throw, and use matching shams on some of the pillows. You could consider some new art work so you’ve got a change. I get tired of the same old accessories and like to have extras so I can switch them out for a change.
Doing all these tricks means very little of the masculine comforter will show, but everyone involved should be happy. Another trick to cover up some bed real estate is to adopt a cat or dog from your local animal shelter! (And you can later falsely blame them for a permanent stain on the comforter that you don’t like.)
You’ve got my sympathy; it’s really tough to have to live with items you don’t like in your house.
