Liz Claiborne exclusive to JCPenney?!! wow!?
So there’s been news that Liz Claiborne has made a 10 year deal with JCPenney to become an exclusive brand for the big retailer.. That means..
All Liz Claiborne merchandise would exit any additional department-store retailer
(Macy’s Boscov’s, Dillards, Belk, Bon-Ton) and will only be available at JCPenney until 2020, starting fall 2010!!
Liz Claiborne New York designed by Isaac Mizrahi would move from Department stores to QVC only!
The “Liz and Co” and “Concepts by Claiborne” brands originally exclusively sold at JCPenney would be phased out, and the Liz Claiborne merchandise would begin appearing in JCPenney stores in August of 2010.
What do you think of this change? Smart? Stupid? Do you do most of your liz co. shopping at JCPenney or other dept stores.

At one time it was owned by a pharmaceutical company… the one that invented insulin, Eli Lilly. That company has changed hands a lot but it’s always high class moves… not marketing. I suspect they want one market and one target, which is smart in this economy… you target your money in one area.

Oops… that was Elizabeth Arden that Eli Lilly owned. Anyway, I don’t think that changes my opinion about Liz Claiborne. If you’re a smart company you consolidate as much as you can and pick the best venue. The days of being “me too” doesn’t seem to be making it and many are realizing it. People want quality at a good price.
You gotta have both today… price AND quality.
