How do I keep my 5 month old kitten from destroying all of my furniture?
She has clawed up my nice coffee table and the scratches are pretty deep and cannot simply be fixed with a furiture marker.. She has also clawed up the corners of my couch and has been working on destroying our comforter at night. She has a scratching mat filled with cat nip but still won’t use it.. What am I suppose to do? I love this cat but if she doesn’t stop I’m going to have to get rid of her. I was seriously hoping she would be the kitten that grew up with my 16 month old and he just loves her to death. However, she is destroying our stuff that we can’t afford to replace.
Here is a list of items you can use to stop a cat from scratching:
A bottle/can with something noisy in it
Air (I use a balloon pump)
Aluminum foil
Anything citrus smelling (spray/rub in on whatever they’re starching)
Double sided tape

Packaging tape

Scratching post
Simple Solution Indoor/Outdoor Repellent for Dogs and Cats (Spray-Petco)

Spray that stops them (there all different kinds)

Trim their nails back once a week
Water bottle spray
Also you said your cat is not using the scratching post. There is come catnip spray you can try. Also it might not be big enough. A scratching post needs to be as tall as that cat (about 32”).
