Hikers/backpackers/campers or anyone – please tell me how to fix backpack problem ?
It’s a top quality pack and I like its very comfortable wide padded carrying straps and thick contoured pad where sits on back. Problem is that its made of new age material which gets soaked and stays soaked with sweat. On frequent long hikes cannot properly wash body or dry out wet pack-so getting problems with back and shoulder irritation and rashes. Also causes odors & makes colors run in hiking clothes and moisture penetrates through to pack contents . I’ve learned material used is a known health risk – and its even used in mattress covers. Any answers? Can I have this material covered or ???? I don’t want much extra weight.
B/pack is expensive& I like it, so the chuck it out answer is not an option! My mind boggles at suggested silicon spray solution!
The back pad is main problem, straps a minor.one. Is it possible replace or cover pad?(if so with what) so it doesnt directly contact back? Don;t want something heavy. I wear nylon hike clothes but still gets sweat saturated.
You don’t need to chuck it out, but you could sell it on eBay or return it to the manufacturer to get rid of something that irritating. Many manufacturers stand behind their products 100% and will listen to complaints, refund your money or send you a replacement pack with improved upgraded technology especially if others have complained as well.
There’s not just one pack for each person and you DONT have to live with it despite it’s problems even if you love other bits about it. Many backpacks have similar features and don’t have the part that bothers you, so look around for a better one, while you try to get rid of this one. If I knew which pack you have or what you like about it I could offer some alternatives.
My first pack was an 8 pound Dana Designs Astralplane Overkill for $425 purchased in 1993. The pack I use today weighs 9 ounces and I made it myself from Ray Jardine’s backpack kit for $50 purchased in 2005.
Since maybe you sweat a lot, you might want to consider an external frame backpack which has a mesh back rather than an internal where you’re up against the back the whole time. It might not be the pack but you?
