Attack of the mobile 1-year old and….sleep?!?!?

Please help! My almost 1-year old has recently begun pulling up on everything and anything. In the last week, he has figured out how to pull up on to his crib, jump up and down squealing with glee, and turn on the aquarium toy (just soft lullaby music, with soft lights and moving fish….). He used to just go right to bed after drinking milk and laying in his crib for a few minutes. But now, I will put him in his crib (in a comatose state) and he’ll wake RIGHT up, put on his toy music, stand, and jump!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Is this just a temporary thing, because he is excited about his independence and new-found milestone? How long does this go on?!?! Time to get rid of the aquarium crib toy???
Nicky – the problem is that he is now waking up 100 times a night, and I will find him standing up in his crib crying, so dead tired but so excited about being able to stand up….(I’m exhausted, I work full time and only get 6 hours of sleep tops!!!)

If yours is anything like mine he won’t put himself back to sleep on his own because he’s a boy and an almost independent 1 yr old. I was never able to keep the aquarium toy in the crib because he has ALWAYS moved around his crib in his sleep hitting his head on the toy or better yet, hitting the toy on and waking himself up.

This is a phase just one of many though. I think the first was rolling over and not being able to roll back while he was sleeping so I had to into his room and roll him over. I have never had a problem getting him to sleep at night (just naps) but the keeping him asleep, now that’s the real issue. I am a stay home mom but still only get 4-6 hrs of sleep a night and I have done both, work and stay home and I can honestly say that I don’t feel anymore rested either way. At least when I was at work I could sit down most of the day, now I don’t sit even a whole hour from wake up to bedtime (6a-11p) and then up every 2-3 hrs. I can honestly sympathize with you but unfortunately I don’t think there’s a concrete answer.
When he’s 18 you won’t sleep because he took the car out and the cops are calling you! (j/k) Trying to give you (sleepy mom) a laugh!
