Housebreaking stubborn puppy. Help?

I have a six, almost seven month old golden retriever puppy who will not housebreak completely. We take her outside regularly, and praise her when she goes outside, but she still has accidents. She is crated at night, and never has an accident in her crate. Her schedule of pottying isn’t regular though, since we have had issues with her eating fabrics and other things which have made her movements irregular. She doesn’t have an obstruction, though, and we do not let her have anything she could accidently swallow anymore. It’s just annoying having to clean up her messes constantly, especially because she getting older=bigger messes. Can anyone help us with the final push of potty training to get her to “tell” us when she needs to go potty, or for us to help her in another way? Thanks a lot!

First, you have to make sure the puppy isn’t inside the crate for more than 4 hours at a time.

Second, is the crate the right size fit for your growing puppy? She should be in a 42″ crate (for full sized Golden Retriever) with a divider panel to accommodate her growth. I recommend the 42″ Midwest iCrate with 2-doors (http://www.animatedpet.com/store/product.php?productid=43&cat=20&page=1)

Third, stick with a strict schedule. Take her outside first thing in the morning, then feed, and outside again. Give her every chance to go. Exhaust her a little before you place her inside the crate. Do the same each time you take her out.

Since you mentioned a problem with eating fabrics, I would invest in hard toys to keep her busy and keep her crated until she grows out of this phase. You wouldn’t want her to chew through wires and furniture.
