What do you think about Indiana Hoosiers bowl chances?
I am a die hard Hoosier fan, but I can’t justify Indiana going to a bowl ahead of teams like Northwestern and Michigan State this season seeing how they lost to both. (This is based on them losing to Purdue, which except for a defensive miracle will happen). Do you agree or do you think that since it’s been 13 years since they went to a bowl that the Big Ten might give them extra consideration come bowl selection time?
Firstly, have you been watching Purdue this season? IU’s chances of winning might be better than you think. And I say that as a loyal Boilermaker! Anyway onto your question.
IU’s chances to go to a bowl are certainly diminished now that MSU is bowl eligible. (Trust me I’m just as sick about MSU 6th win as you are!) But I think they could edge out Northwestern despite the lose. Northwestern lost to DUKE for Pete’s sake! IU has the same overall record as both.
Honestly, between MSU, Northwestern and IU, it’s going to come down to which team bowl committees feel will bring in the most fans (read money) to the site. How willing the fans are to travel plays a big role in bowl selection when deciding between eligible teams with the same record. In that respect, not having been to a bowl for 13 years might work in IU’s favor or it might kill them. There could either be the thought there isn’t much of a history to determine if the fans will travel or the thought that the fans haven’t had the opportunity for so long they turn up in droves.
