why do humans have “races” instead of subspecies like other animals?

like lets say, for example, the tiger. why are the different types of tigers (bengal, indo-chinese, siberian etc) called subspecies, but the different types of humans (asian, white, black etc) called a race?

tiger subspecies vary in appearance (size, coat color, stripe pattern, neck-hair etc) just like humans (height, skin color, eye-shape, skull structure).

does it have something to do with human arrogance as usual?

Race and subspecies mean the same thing, though “race” is a term used only for humans found in different ranges, have different skin colors, height, skull structure etc, which like you said, is nothing but a show of arrogance. Humans will go to any lengths to find something that seperates them from other animals.

Edit – Elaine, your whole “answer” screams of ignorance. Do you not know the difference between a species and a SUB-species?

And no, Bengal and Siberian tigers are not the only subspecies of tigers. There are 9..

-Bengal tiger
-Siberian tiger
-Indochinese tiger
-Sumatran tiger
-Malayan tiger
-South China tiger
-Bali tiger
-Javan tiger
-Caspian tiger
(Though some of these have gone extinct)
