Is a King Snake right for me?

hi,
im interested in getting a snake, and im from australia. I have researched on king snakes and was stunned by how easy they are to keep.

Please help me if a king snake is good for me.

A lil bit ’bout myself,
-I usually spend my weekends on the computer and I always have LOTS of spare time, even when I need to study for exams.

- I am a fairly calm guy, and im an only child and currently I have no pets, so im lonely .

-My mum is scared of snakes, but im sure i can persuade her.
-I have wanted a reptile ever since I was 3 (currently 13)
- Dont like animals biting me etc, but I dont mind nips here and there.
- Im a confident, but lazy guy.

heya, as a fellow aussie snake fan i have to say, it’s a good choice in first snake.
king snakes are rather docile so shouldnt bite unless provoked and are also great companion snakes (if you can call them that these days lol) if you have plenty of spare time than you should have no problems caring for your snake. if you can convince your mother to let you get one! i understand you’re only thirteen (i’m only 19 myself) but know where you stand as i went through the begging for a snake stage at 13.
the most expensive part about a snake pet is the housing. make sure it has enough space to move around comfortably, somewhere to hide and also decent substrate (sand etc) and heating. the best brand you can get for reptiles and amphibians is Exoterra. theyre a little more expensive but are better quality, warranty guaranteed and also last a lot longer than any other.

on the slight hand that your mother wont let you have a snake due to her snake fears, dont throw the tantrum often seen. meet her half way and talk about getting a lizard first. scaly-backs and blue-tongues are docile and a good test to see if you are suitable to care for a reptile. or try a turtle (just beware of thier pee! )

also do not forget you need a reptile owner’s licence. last i checked they were about $25 for a single reptile but because you’re under 18 you’ll need a parent there with you (as with much else for under 18s).
