Which comforter should I buy?

When I stay with my friends or grandparents they always have those super cozy down comforters and a blanket that goes on top. What is the difference between a down comforter and a duvet cover? Also theres like a million different choices. I know high thread count is softer but theres …Egyptian thread count , Siberian Down comforters, Goose down comforters, Theres some “oversized” and some are “High loft”. Im overwhelmed whats the difference?

I agree with you that choosing the right linens, quality, price and comfort can be overwhelming! I will try to keep it simple =]
Down Comforter – things to consider:
1. Fill power – how fluffy the down is (stay away from feathers)
2. Fill weight – the amount of down in the comforter will determine how warm it is. The higher the weight, the warmer the comforter
3. Thread count – the higher the number, the softer and lighter the fabric. Note: If you will be using a duvet over the comforter, no need to spend more for higher thread count
4. Baffle box – “walls” are sewn in boxes in between the top and bottom cover, that hold and distribute the down evenly and prevent it from shifting
Duvet cover – this is a cover that goes over and protects the comforter. There are so many to choose from, depending on your taste and budget.
Thread count – this will apply to sheets and duvet covers. I personally prefer (and adore) Egyptian cotton.
……so in answer to your question, I love my “oversized” king down comforter. I cover it with a duvet which I remove periodically to clean without having to clean the comforter. I use at least 400 count Egyptian cotton for the top and bottom sheets and pillow cases.
