Where can I buy sheets of styrofoam?
I need to raise a queen sized mattress up about 8″ – 10″ and do not want to buy a box spring. Do you know where I can buy styrofoam blocks or can you give me an alternative idea?
Styrofoam sheets would be very expensive for an 8″ – 10″ raise. The 1 1/2″ blue styrofoam sheets are about $25 each where I live, so multiply that by 6, would be cheaper to buy a box spring.
The next best would be get some 2″ x 10″, (actually 9 1/2″), wood and build a frame the same size as the bed frame, place an inexpensive plywood with some cross members then cover it with an old sheet to keep it looking nice and not snag the mattress.
If you have a headboard and footboard, you can use some 2″ x 4″’s and screw/nail them to the the height you want. Doing the same with plywood and cross members.
