Would a double fit on a twin XL?
I just purchased a twin extra long mattress set and am having a hard time finding a bed set that I like and matches my style that also fits that size. Could I use a double comforter instead? I found a few in that size that I like but I’m not sure if they would fit length wise. I already have sheets that will fit the mattress I just need a quilt or comforter. Has anyone ever tried this before? Any suggestions would be more that helpful.
The problem is that a double bed is not any longer than a regular twin bed. (The link the previous answer gives is incorrect–double and queen beds are not the same size.) The comforter will be too long on the sides and still too short at the end. In order to get extra length, you’d have to go up to a queen size–and that’s going to be so wide that it will look really lopsided and might even drag on the floor.
Your best bet is to get a regular twin size comforter. A twin x-long is only five inches longer than a regular twin. A lot of comforters are sold as twin/twin x-long. I know that the store I work at labels the exact same comforter (with the same dimensions) as twin x-long during back-to-school and regular twin during the rest of the year.
And even if the regular comforter is too short, all you’d have to do is pull it down towards the foot of the bed so that the first five inches at the head of the bed are not covered by the comforter. Once you fold over the comforter and top sheet, no one will be able to tell that it’s a little bit short. And since those five inches are where your head goes, you don’t need the comforter to come up that far.
