Reversible Pillowcase

I was thinking of making blankets like large, reversible pillowcases for kids in DFCS custody. Can you think?
of anything I should be aware of or consider in making them?
I won’t use buttons or anything to close them, because snaps and buttons could be choking hazards. String to tie it closed could be dangerous.
I’ve heard most foster kids carry their belongings in pillowcases. So I was thinking of making a blanket that could double as a bag. Maybe 60 X 45?
Any suggestions?
I’m asking this here because you guys are awesome, and because caring for the “fatherless” is a spiritual concept.
Velcro makes a nice safe fastener. A zipper might also be safe, but would be more apt to break or jam.
As for decorating it, anything glued on will likely be torn or chewed off. These are some nervous kids — some anyway. Iron-on images of Blue’s Clues or Dora (etc.) are always well received.
Reversible, huh? Different decorations on either side would be interesting and stimulating.
In our experience, Hefty trash bags & cardboard boxes may be sent a week behind the kids. They usually come to us with just the clothes on their back. By then my wife has already bought them some cute outfits and some church clothes.
With Meth use raging, we’d rather not get anything from the child’s home. The residue could endanger our other children and us, as well as the foster-child.
We are always touched by volunteers making or buying and sending things for the children. They are too often forgotten. Thanks and God bless you and yours!
