Broken Choc. Mini Rex?
Can you show broken chocolate Mini Rex?
I need some help… I need 2 rabbits to start Mini Rex lines. Should I get, say, a broken chocolate buck and solid choc. doe? Or a solid choc. buck and lilac doe? What do you recommend? Any past litters from Mini Rex with good quality babies?

O_O I am a member of ARBA and NMRRC. Why wouldn’t I get 2 unrelated mini rex? I am going to breed and sell their babies a lot. I can only have 4 rabbits, I have 1 pet, 1 showing mini rex, and then I’m going to have 1 buck for showing/breeding, and 1 doe just for breeding.
You can show Broken Chocolates. They are shown in the Broken class. Any variety that is recognized can be shown in broken also.
Make sure the broken has more than 10% color and less than 50%.
They also have to have colored ears and even nose markings.
Either pair would work fine. If you only want Chocolate and broken chocolates then stick with chocolates. If you want to get some lilacs in your herd then get a lilac. You could also breed a broken chocolate to a solid lilac and get broken lilacs. Lilac is a dilute of chocolate.
Always breed a solid to a broken never 2 brokens as you will get too many charlie marked kits that way.(not enough color to be showable)
Make sure you look at both pedigrees closely. If you want lilacs make sure they have them in their background (both the sire and dam). Even if you get a solid chocolate and a broken one, if they both have lilac in their background they can produce lilacs.
I raise Mini Rex and have for 10 years. Chocolates are beautiful in the rex fur. I have a broken chocolate buck who is 7 years old and a Grand Champion, he still produces nice kits. Right now I am concentrating on my Chinchilla line and Tricolors.
You can also breed rabbits that are related. it is called line breeding. If they have say the same great grand parent on one side that is fine. Also some breeders will breed a doe back to her sire if they are trying to improve a point in the lines. Same with breeding a buck to his dam.
You just have to be vert careful with this and be ready to cull hard any kits that are not up to the show quality.
