Christmas gift for annoying mother-in-law?
My mother-in-law is a very old, sickly, pious, annoying woman who loves to guilt trip us into visiting her frequently with our toddler daughter (even though she lives 4 hours away) by saying we don’t love her. I want to find a nice Christmas gift for her that will make her happy and maybe get her to lay off with the whining for more visits! I thought of giving her a quilt I’m making out of my daughter’s old baby clothes–but I was making it for ME and I selfishly want to keep it! I’m torn! Part of me wants to give it to her and say, “See? If we didn’t care about you I wouldn’t give this to you! Now leave us alone!” but the other part of me wants the quilt. 
What should I give her?
Keep the quilt. It is a momento of your baby — and some day when she’s an adult you’ll want to give it to her. Would she like a pet for companionship, or would she be annoyed that you gave her something that requires tending to? Seems to me that no matter what you give her, she’s not going to be happy; it’s just her nature and her way to manipulate you. Buy her a nice robe or nightgown.
