How do you put zebra stripes on a cake?
My 16th birthday is in one week from today. and me and my mom are making the cake together. I want one tier to be zebra striped. But neither of us know how. Any ideas?
Since you are not, I am guessing, going to be doing or have done a lot of cake decorating I think the easiest way would be to use a piping gel.
Take the cake tier you want to have the zebra stripes on it and frost it all in white.
Take a toothpick and make your stripes.
Now take the piping gel and fill in the areas you marked with the toothpick.
You could do this with regular frosting but I think you will be happier with the color of black in the piping gel.
If you want to use frosting get a paste color from a craft store that carries a full line of cake decorating supplies.
You could practice using the frosting on a cookie sheet before you try the cake.
If you want to try fondant I would just suggest making the stripes with the fondant, don’t cover the whole cake with it. If you do stripes, just roll out the fondant and cut stripes of different shapes and widths. I would even use a pizza cutter to cut the strips of fondant. Once you have them cut out just press onto the frosting and smooth out any edges. You could do that by applying a bit of frosting almost like you would grout to a tile.
